On March 21, 2022, the network Special Interest Group ‘Learning in Laboratory Work and Field Work’ hosted a seminar at the University of Southern Denmark. During the seminar, 15 participants discussed and shared perspectives on two overall themes.

The discussions on the first theme ‘How to explore student learning and outcomes in field and lab work’ were kick-started by speakers professor Ben Kennedy, University of Canterbury and Head of teaching laboratories Magdalena Pyrz, Aarhus University. Ben Kennedy presented recent research on student’s perspectives of blended learning activities. Magdalene described her experiences with exploring learning in laboratory work from a practitioner perspective.

The second theme for discussions were ‘Integrating research perspectives in laboratory and field work – moving beyond ‘standard exercises’. Speaker Postdoc Marie Ryberg Larsen, University of Copenhagen initiated discussions with narratives from her current work studying experiments with research integration in teaching experiments at KU. Associate professor emeritus Jens Josephsen, University of Roskilde provided perspectives on experimental work in project-based settings.

The next meeting in the Special Interest Group will take place in fall 2022. You can read more about the Special Interest Group and sign up for news etc. here: Dansk Universitetspædagogisk Netværk - Læring i Laboratorie- og Feltarbejde (dun-net.dk)
